Hi everyone i just picked up deep blue lights for my 55 gallon and was wondering if 2x54 watt t5ho bulbs were enough to keep soft coral in my tank. it has 10k moonlight leds and its 48in

What spectrum are the bulbs? From the sound of it they are atinics, which might not be enough.

Go get some cheap garbage sofites and try out one or two...this way you can know before crashing your tank with a lot of melting softies. :D

I agree with fleshy, go cheap and just a couple to see. I would also recommend atleast one 10K light for white light.

when i started my 75 softy reef i had standard tubes over some mushrooms, zoa's and a nepthia leather. they did fine with just 40watts of light at the top of my tank and 0 blue light. Not to say this is even close to how it should be done, but in small amounts of time it can be.

can you describe or show me how healthy coral looks i got a softie today, looks pretty cool. its spread along the rock so is that the melting you were talking about. idk the name but it looks like a type of anemone and it turms a greenish yellow with the blue moonlight leds

temp is 76f, salinity is 1.025 is this okay
Sounds good to me, although a tad cool.

If you had a name for the coral, or a picture, we could be of more help on whether or not it was doing fine.

Although, to be quite frank, something as to be seriously wrong to get most softies to die.

thanks ill take a pic later from my sisters phone because my phone doesn't plug into the computer. Do you guys feed your coral if so how often and i was wondering how you feed them.

Softies you dont have to worry about feeding.

SPS you feed for additional growth.

LPS should be fed sometimes, but not really necessary in my mind. (I will probably get flamed for this)

I wouldnt flame you for that. I tend to think that some of the larger lps polyps that have very distinctive mouths should be fed, like a scoly.

But for the most part, I just leave em be. Most people have water that is nutrient rich compared to the ocean, and I think that is good enough.
