I sold my convict breeding pair and G. terror for $10.00. I go to the lfs after the sale and see that they had 2" (3" if you include whiskers) Lima shovelnose catfish for $7.00, and they are always $20.00!!! I could not resist. Even better, I go to the feeder guppy tank, and see that by mistake a very nice looking 1" male varitus platy and 1" heavily gravid female swordtail were in there. I get them for 12 cents each!!! I am aware of the 18" max size of the shovelnose, and its preaditory nature. Right now its in a 40T holding tank with a bunch of community fish to large to swallow. from there, it will stay until large enough for the cichlid 55, and a 125 after that.

awesome pickup. I used to have a lima shovelnose, and they are great fish. :headbang2

yeah, I thought so. I picked this from the other 2 limas, because it had a benifical deformity. The top half of the tail was transparent, while the bottom half was trans-black. the deformidy comes in beacause the bootom half of the tail is about 2 cm longer then the top.

good luck

Is this REALLY a deformity? Most limas around here have this trait. BTW, I bought a 12-inch lima for R$ 18,00... About the same price you found your juvie. :grinyes:

Best regards.

Daniel.

great pick up, they are great fish, one note about the fish being to big to swallow, be careful with that statement, I have 2 and I have seen them take down some pretty big fish. my one is about 8 " or so and I have had 4-5" fish come up missing in his tank. search the tank to find a big fat happy catfish laying on a branch.
