So I finally have a lion fish on order. I have always wanted one and now have a tank ready for it. It will be by itself unless I can decide on a tank mate for it (suggestions welcomed) I ordered an Antennata (my favorite type). Hopefully my local fish guy will be able to get me one this week on his trip down south. I can't wait and empty tanks are no fun. So probably Wednesday I hope.

Any suggestions on weaning off of live food. I did not have to deal with that with my reef tank.

And of course, don't get stung right. LOL

he looks awesome.....not really a saltwater guy....but i would def keep that little guy!!!

Any help on how to switch him to frozen and fresh food (non live) Do I not feed for a few days then offer the fresh/frozen with a feeder rod/gripper. This is a wild caught lion that is still on live food. He is eating guppies at the moment but he is eating. My local fish guy picked him up down south for me at the wholesaler where these guys get shipped in to. He made sure he was eating but I picked him up prior to him being switch to non live food.

Also Suggestions on a good tank mate. Want to keep this a predator tank.

Thinking:
Another type of lion
Puffer
Snowflake eel (wife would not prefer one of these. Creep her out I guess)

Be consistent. Don't give in and get him really hungry. Garlic always helps get them going, but i have never had to use it with any fish. I usually have a tank mate that already eats frozen, that way the lion has an idea of what to do. They can be specifically hard to get going. If you put fishing line around a small piece and create the live bouncing around i know some people have had good results with this.

A big help is to have it top trained. Meaning once you walk up and mess at the top of the water he thinks its feeding time. That way when you toss something meaty in there hes understands thats what he needs to eat. Especially when another fish steals it from him and he goes without for a couple days.

BTW great looking lion. This is my favorite smaller species of lion. Well actually my favorite, just wish they got bigger.

Thanks for the input I will give this a try. He does not have a tank mate yet. But I and thinking about trying one of those clear feeding prongs. He still hides on the back side of one of the rocks in there. He is still a little shy as I have only had him for a few days. He runs from the gripper set I have. I thinks it is too big and bulky and just scares him. I had not thought of the fishing line idea though. I can't wait to see the look on my Wife's face when she walks in on me fish in my own tank. LOL
