For years I had a small bowfront tank. My wife actually had it when we got together. I've had a small tropical community, a few small cichlid pairs, and even used it for an emergency tank when my old 220 exploded. It has been a great tank but it was time for an upgrade. I briefly looked at a larger 6' bowfront tank because my wife favors them, but $/per gallon was insane. Plus I hated the footprints... this was the literal progression of things...

My wife bought my Deep Sea Aquatics 225 gallon Xmas of 2012. So November 2013 came and she was hinting for ideas for a present for me. I told her I expected a new tank every year. She suggested we upgrade the living room tank because it was boring. I was looking around at pet smart with her a few days later. started with the 46bow, then the 55 column, then the 60g and then the 75. Then I said if I was gonna get a 4footer I wanted at least 4x2 for a footprint. So I got a price on a standard 4x2x2, a DSA 4x2x21 rimless, and the marineland 4x3x27" DD tank. Couldn't justify the 2 oddball tank's pricetags, so I went with the 4x2x2. Got it from the same LFS my wife bought my big tank from. So for Xmas my wife and all her family got me gift cards to that LFS and after all that I wound up spending around $300 for the tank out of pocket. Not bad, huh? Plus the LFS loves me...hahaha. stock in the old tank was
10 Black Neon Tetras
1 baby BN Plecos
1 baby fire eel
(See why my wife found it boring)

I moved these fish as well as the emperor 400 over to the 120. I also moved my smaller flagtail and my baby Adonis Pleco out of my 225 into the 120. I also added an XP1 running through a 36w turbotwist. Next month I'm adding either an ehiem or FX6 and ditching the Emperor 400.

For new stock my wife wants a ton of Clown Loaches. She has fallen in love with them. She wants a tank full of them. And by the time they outgrow this tank I will be upgrading to an acrylic 8x3x3, so it makes the 120 basically a grow out tank. It will also have a few GEOS and some more tetras more than likely. Once the fire eel gets over 12" he is going in the big tank. Same with the Adonis.

I'm going to try some live plants, and for lighting I have a 48" T5 fixture, just had to order a new ballast. I'm also thinking of getting one of those new fancy schmancy LED fixtures with the remotes and whatnot. Just to tinker with colors.

Here is the bowfront. I put it on Craigslist today and sold it in 2 hours. Wife was very happy. I think she was getting worried I was gonna keep both, lol.

Sorry for glare, lack of decor and scape. Just threw in the stuff from the bowfront for now.

XP1 running through the UV. Hoses are messy, once I get the other filter I will probably hard plumb everything anyways. I hate vinyl hosing!!!

Anyways I will update as I add things. Hope you guys enjoy!

That's a nice upgrade, but there seems to be room there for a 6 footer [hint] [hint]

The 225 is on a slab that is a converted garage. The main house is a raised foundation. I had a 6 footer in this same spot and every sound made the hairs on the back of my next stand up. I never slept at night. This tank has fairly low weight per square foot compared to other tanks. Plus my wife thinks this is a 75g.

Looks good I like bowfront but I've never bought one. Does the angles make the tank look funny?that's what always kept me away

It does create optical illusions at certain angles. Like a funhouse mirror.

looks good.. any inputs on the pro of this tank and cons to it?? i just love their depth of 27".. better than the old tanks with 24"....

My new tank (120) is 4x2x2. Are you talking about my 225?

Great dimensions for a planted tank. I feel you on bowfront pring, 36g bow = standard 55 $. Been mulling replacing my 36 planted bow with a rimless tank but never thought about the cost until you mentioned it, but it makes sense since no bracing means thicker glass

I was dead set on the rimless tank for a riparium. But the price was to high for a 4' tank.
