I got a lungfish about 2 month ago, the person at the LPS said that he will just eat anything, I haven't seen him eat anything yet. I have him in a 30 gallon tank with a couple cat fish and two tin foil barbs. Now i haven't seen any aggressive yet ( I didn't even know they were) Although a couple of my smaller fish have died since then, but i just though that may of been just sick. The Lungfish hides alot, and currently hides under a fake rock i bought. How can i feed him without the other fish getting to it? I have only seen him at night a couple times swimming and also him coming up for air. I got it at the pet shop for 15.00, and they didn't have what kind it was, they just said ti was a lung fish.

do you know what brand it is? maybe you can post a picture of it..if it is a south american lungfish it will be o.k. with tankmates...
I think you should check out some threads on this forum so you can get to know some stuff about lungfish....
My advice (if it is an African lungfish)...get him it's own tank.
Sometimes it takes a while before they start to eat.
And some times it takes a while before they start to chop up their tank mates, heaters, pipes, pumps and airstones.
ow and your hands...

goodluck.

Here are pictures Sorry for the blurryness

I am probably going to put him in a 10 gallon tank (for now) until i know what he likes to eat and such.

that's a nice lungfish...it's a protopterus dolloi...I have one of these mine is between 40 and 41 inch...It's an african lungfish ,,,,the slender lungfish..it has a wild max of 4 ft.
I got mine at 18 inch if I'm correct...it was real mellow when I got it...now it's a beast and real aggressive...when I first got mine I started out feeding it giant canadian nightcrawlers from the bait shop and I got it some platy's...(live fish)...
My advice is give it his own tank..with some space...keep the current low, light low, waterlevel low and the temp up...and leave it alone as much as possible...

Ow an keep us updated on the progress...there are not that many people here who have dolloi's...

try to keep your hands out of the tank as much as possible, to prevent stress...I have the feeling they like to be left alone...if this wasn't the case they won't be this agressive...their eye sight is really poor so there is no problem in entering the tank and doing your buisiness in front of the tank..just try to limit your work inside of his tank..
