New Malawi setup question

Just curious from those with experience, if i'm starting out a new malawi setup, does it matter if i get groups of the same species of malawi cichlids or if i'm getting 20 fish, can i get 20 differenct malawi fish species and the fish will be just as happy?

I've always found you have a better chance of success if you pick a few species and keep groups of that species. That way they tend to bicker more with each other and not everyone in the tank. It also means having fewer males which gives them more room to make territories.
