Hi all my name is johny
Currently have 2 tanks with one 200 gallon with 2 silver arowana, 1 Blood parrot, 4 Clown loaches and 2 albino oscars and second is a 55 gallon community tank.

My question is regarding the arowana i have had for a little over a month now my water condition are all really good from what i have seen nitrate, nitrite, ph, ammonia, and temp are all under the right conditions running 2 UTC 3400 Canister Filters and have air stones as well but until recently i have been noticing that 1 arowana is starting to swim around the bottom of the tank and I could tell which of the 2 is more dominant i have rearranged the tank about 4 times this last month to try and give a little confusion so 1 wont be trying to make the tank his so i came up with a conclusion and wanted some suggestions from more experience people!

1. Get 1 more arowana seeing if it would lighten the aggression and when they get bigger bump up to a 400+ gallon tank?

2. Get 3 more arowana and getting a 500+ gallon tank? this would be a little more difficult to do, due to the fact have that having to move everything around and getting the tank built would take some time!!

3. Get a tank divider =(

All help, suggestion or criticism will be appreciated

Johny

Hi Johny,
1.How big are the Silvers?
2.Are they both almost the same size?
3.What Dimensions are the tank?
4.How long have they been fighting.. any visible injuries on the dominated aro?

The easiest for now would be to get a tank divider.. remove any decor in the tank and set up the divider.. give it sometime and see if they go easy.. usually people try to grow aros in odds (3,5,7..) from when they are little.. and then there are loads of people who have 2 aros in the same tank and all is peaceful.. again all this depends on their size and space available in the tank.. I have a 20 " and 3X12"+ silvers..all in their own tanks.. i did try to move all into the largest aros tank.. All was quiet for say 20 mins and then the largest aro started whacking the smaller ones.. it was clearly a question of space.. anyways all the best.. do post pictures of your setup.. could make it a whole lot easier for people to give you suggestions.. cheers :)

Welcome to the forum.

Johnny, I will tell you now that your current tank will not be big enough for the 2 arowanas once they mature(if you are not aware already).

If you can tell us what Kaya asked it would be very helpful.

The tank measures 96"x24"x20" both the arowana are about 6 inches same size and as of last night the dominant one is actually no longer dominant the dominant one his tail looks to have been nipped but now it switched in a sense the non dominant one has become dominant, and there are no visual damage done besides the the tail nip on the one that was sominant
I would say they have been fighting roughly 2weeks now

Your tank is huge and they're pretty small atm. Seeing as how large the tank is, I guess you could divide it, if you can put up with the ugly divider in the middle.

Usually if the fight is brief then chances are they settled their problems and paired up. Since your arowanas have been going at it for 2 weeks, I don't think a pairing is going to happen. You're going to have to grow them out bigger and try again later.

So would adding another arowana be out the picture?

Depends, do you have away to separate 3 arowana if things go bad?

For short term yes I could put 1 arowana in my 55 gallon tank with hopes of him not eating anyone and have a tank divider in the 200 gallon...:(
I know each fish temperament is different so I guess only way to find out is try and expect the worse hope for the best unless there is another solution that I'm not thinking off

There's really only one way to find out and that is to try it out. Another issue with adding more arowana is whether or not you willing to upgrade to a proper sized tank to house these monsters once they get larger.

Was thinking of going to a 400+ gallon tank once these 2 get to about a foot long wasn't planning on getting a third but if the third were to lesson the aggression then I would get a 500+ gallon tank to house them..
