Hey guys, new member here, just found this site and hope to be on here more often. I hope someone can help me for now though. I apologize if I posted improperly.

75 gallon tank
1 male FH 10"
6 Months old
Had him in tank for 5 months
Tank mate is 1 Common Pleco (12" long)

Diet - Hikari Cichlid Gold

No sharp decorations
No live plants
Gravel suby rate
30% water change 6 days ago

Tank:
79F degrees
KH- 60
GH- 30
N02- .5
PH- 7.5

Appears to have what looks like skin peeling off his kok.

I'm sorry he's not being very photogenic today.

Would ask if you can post ur ammonia and nitrate levels. Would make sure it’s with a liquid test kit for accuracy. Would suggest increasing ur water to 50% twice a week. For now add some sea chem paragaurd to the tank and salt at 1tsp per gallon. Would suggest doing a methylene (MB) dip or can use a qtip with MB on it to the area once daily for 5 days. Post some updates as it progresses.

You have a nitrite reading which tells us that your biological filtration isn't sufficient. You will most likely also have a reading for ammonia. What you need is more biofiltration so there is plenty of surface area for nitrifying bacteria to grow which remove the ammonia and nitrite.

What kind of filtration do you have now?

fullsizeoutput_7b1.jpeg Your photos were a bit hard to see, so I messed with them a bit to help clear things a bit.

You have a fairly large fish in an undersized tank, so because of that scenario to me you should be doing 2 or 3 large water changes per week keep water quality high enough to avoid health problems.
