We recently moved to a home where the sellers left some very nice furniture. We have a Ethan Allen cherry wood tv stand that we thought may work for an aquarium stand. The dimensions are 5' wide by 4'2" high and 23" deep. Our thoughts were to have someone build the actual aquarium to fit the space and cut the top and mount on hinges for accessibility. We would like to keep the drawers below for storage but our concern is on weight distribution. The stand is on four ball feet and this is on a second story (finished basement below). Our question is would this work for a stand? What modifications/tips would you recommend. Thank you for your help and wisdom!

you know what they say third time the charm

I apologize for the technical ignorance. Anyway, we are hopeful that we could covert this TV stand into a aquarium. My rough calculations is about 200 gallons...not sure if it could handle this much weight.

If the stand is built correctly, then yes, of course it could support the weight. However, you'd have to inspect everything to make sure. I build cabinets for a living, and If I had built that Monster cabinet, it would definitely hold 1800# without a problem.
You will most likely want to place supports in key areas around the inside, where the majority of the weight would be, the perimeter obviously. Then quite possibly you'll need to also place a block in the center of the cabinet both in the front and in the rear of the bottom open area, just for support.

But as I stated, it all depends on how the cabinet was built initially.
