I've been following the other upsizing thread and just want to make sure I have understood correctly as I am moving all 7 of my tanks from basement to main floor and upsizing a few of the smaller ones by about 30g each - will be nothing under 55g when complete. As long as I am transferring filter media and gavel I do NOT have to transfer water too? Also as I am on a well with no chlorine involved how well can I rinse media & gravel in coolish water before reinstalling in new tanks?

You do not need to transfer water just media

Transferring water does nothing, better to use fresh water. Bacteria is in the media and some in gravel. I would be careful rinsing the media too well in colder water than is in the tanks, don't want to kill the bacteria. Would be better to not rinse media inbetween moves tbh. Or just rinse it in the old tankwater you are taking out of the tanks.

I would just transfer and fill up like a large wc. Maybe clean your gravel in old tank water

I think I will just fill a big tub of old tank water and dump all the media in. And have a 2nd tub of olld tank water for cleaning

Then I move the tank up, and proceed to shake the media in the first tub of old tank water and wash using the 2nd tub of old tank water

Lastly put all media back into the tanks
