Canada eh
So I just acquired this new CL from a friend getting out of the hobby. She said they had a few others and after a wc they all were gasping and eventually died. This one however survived. She understands that they are schoalers and said it would be happier with mine. I was happy to oblige.

I figure it looked like it could use some tlc but I don’t have a big enough qt tank set up available so I dumped it right into Gen pop. I know it’s risky but I am prepared to do what is necessary to make sure it can be healthy.

I’m not sure about the hole in the side of its face. Is that a sign of some sort of parasite or something? My wife insists it was wild caught with a hook. I highly doubt it myself, but honestly that’s what it looks like. It seems to be too far forward to be from the bifurcated subocular spine.

It also seems to have a slight line on its head similar to the skinny disease but is already eating well so if I need to treat it for worms might need to get on it ASAP while it is still eating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also one last thing it seems to have some lines that are faded out on its black stripes. Does that happen from bad water quality or poor health.

Most cls are cb. Large can be wild but need to trust ur source. Looks like a puncture more than hith. Likely from another clown loach. Don’t think from a parasite or acute infection. Color fading occurs with most clown loaches. Not much to worry about.

The vast majority of CL's in the trade are wild caught, approx. 50 million a year are exported out of Indonesia & Sumatra each season. https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/clown-loach-breeding-and-export-study.175030/

Agreed, the faded lines are normal in older CL's, and I also agree that the hole looks like a puncture wound, possibly from a fight with another CL.

I can't believe that you dumped this straight into your tank …..

LOL, gents, I only do so in the hopes that others don't repeat the same stupid mistakes that I have made over the years. Until you have lost some fish that are precious to you, the importance of a proper QT period does not seem all that important. Trust me on this.

Yes I knew it was a risky move. I felt like I need to put the new cl in a comfortable environment to eleviate stress and not cause any further damage. If I took it from a 250 gal tank and put it alone in a 20 g it would stress it out even more.

In good news it was eating very well even an hour or two after if was introduced to the tank. It has hardly tried to hide and seems to get along well enough with the other in the pack. I will keep a close eye on it and do some more wc than typical for this tank.

Looks like I will have to upgrade them to a new 120 I have built. This one is getting a bit crowded.

Thank you guys for your responses. I’m glad you chimed in Neil. The people I got this from know you and apparently met you years ago when you sold them some nls food. Now they have buckets upon buckets of it on hand for all their fish. Bandi on Alberta aquatica

Ah yes, Irene & Bill. I met them approx. 10 yrs ago, when I went out to their farm to buy some fish. They had a couple tanks, and within 6 months or so had 20 tanks, which by the end of the year I think ended up at approx. 50 tanks. lol I still have an A. citrinellus that I bought off them almost 8 yrs ago, and the last time I saw them I bought an H. carpintis which was I think almost 3 yrs ago. I haven't seen Bill on here in a year or so, and was actually just thinking of them recently hoping that they were both doing ok. They are getting out of the hobby?

Ya. A friend and myself pulled about 30-40 tanks out of there yesterday. He bought about 150 or so tanks from their remaining stock. It’s sad to see them go. It was bill who got me connected at the club. And he is also the main reason I wanted to try pbass as well.

That’s cool that you still have fish from them. They both spoke very well of you.
