Hi guys i'm Andrew! Glad to see i can get some help with my tank and future fish i get from a lot of we experienced people, look forward to talking with some of you people here.

And i have a question, um so i got my first big tank (175 gallons) made my own stand still building it ill have some pics of it up here in a few day once i get my stand finished. but i was offered a free 3 year old albino oscar thats about 13 inched, and so i took the offer and had my water tested at a local fish place and they said i was good to go and that oscars are pretty much set for any aquarium anyways they are tough fish, so i got the oscar and put him in after a rough time catching him from his old tank, and hes now kinda just laying at the bottom on his side almost not swimming around much at all, he did a little bit after a few min and kinda checked the tank out and just went back to laying on the bottom and kinda seems maybe like hes hurt or isnt doing so well with the water, i also read a little bit that they do this in a new environment and are kinda stressed out but i dont know. Any ideas or poeple dealt with this. If i move him he will kinda just swim outta my reach and just lay still again.

EVeryone on here is going to ask you to test your water parameters again... PH ammonia Nitrates, blah... so invest in your own testing equipment not all lfs know what they are talking about... secondly yes fish when introduced into a new enviroment could be extremely stressed... keep the lights out for a while let your fish relax... if you parameters are fine you keep the lighting down, and you really dont see anything off on the fish disease wise and its still on its side tomorrow.. update this thread and we will help you troubleshoot

:welcome: to MFK!

What filter are you using? Is the filter media new or established? Your petstore offered you empty talk about your water parameters. I somehow feel your tank is never cycled at all. Get API liquid test kit and test your ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. pH, KH and GH kits also come in handy. Post the results when you have them.

Now for a few questions aside from your filtration...What dechlorinator are you using? How did you acclimate the fish to your tank? Where is your tank located right now if your stand is still underway construction? Do you have a spare 20g at the moment? Later on, you will need a spare tank anyway for quarantine and hospital purposes so start investing in one.

well i got another Oscar (Tiger oscar) and 2 red belly pacus for in my tank. So this morning the big oscar was swimming around alot more than he was was hes still very sluggish and lazy seeming maybe cause hes just big, but he still liks sitting on the bottom of the tank in the sand. Anyways i did all my water tests and my ammonia was at 0.25 so i added just a bit of remover.

Do the pacus like rasins?
