Hi guys,

It has been a while. I have a question and figured if anyone had the answer, it would be here. Here's my question: When I am viewing an image on my iMac in PhotoShop the image quality is considerably better than viewing that very same image after I have uploaded it to, say,... Photobucket. Why is that and is there a hosting site that will preserve the quality from the original file? The images, once uploaded, seem a bit duller. Thanks!

Started up a new 125 gallon tank and received a new wild group of Cyphotilapia gibberosa (Zaire Blue Mikula) yesterday. Here's a few pics from earlier today.

Cheers,
Russ

Not a lot of activity on this site :-(

Too bad, the concept is a good one.

You might try to check out Flickr and Picasa Web Albums (might now be tied into Google+). I think they give you some options on what quality image you want to view/store. Most photo sharing sites will down-sample your pictures because computer screens typically have less pixels than current digital cameras. Color calibrating your monitor and embedding color profiles in your images will help maintain the color. Dropbox may be another option to check out for internet file sharing.

Thank you for the reply. Not long after making the OP on this, I upgraded my Photobucket account and did notice, on some images, that the quality was the same as I see on my iMac in PS. However, sometimes the quality still drops off.

I will need to read up on calibrating my monitor and embedding color profiles.

Thanks again.

Russ

Here are two images from yesterday. Big difference when viewing in PS on my iMac and viewing the uploaded file on the Photobucket site (still on the iMac). It's almost as if the color balance is off and the levels are a little duller.

I will have to experiment with the sites you mentioned.

Ok, I tried Pisca (Google) and it maintains the image quality. Now I just don't know how to paste it in a thread yet

Ok, I opened a flicker account and the image quality is unchanged :-D

Here's my first attempt at uploading a Flickr image to a post...

<iframe src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/128471948@N02/15549899610/player/" width="75" height="75" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen oallowfullscreen msallowfullscreen></iframe>

<iframe src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/128471948@N02/15549899670/in/photostream/player/" width="75" height="75" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen oallowfullscreen msallowfullscreen></iframe>

Need to work on that.

The thumbnails were uploaded to this site and quality drops off :(
