So these little guys have been on my wish list since an AFM article back in the mid 90's on the genus. It was always of case of when I had tank space and money, they weren't available. When they were available, tanks were in storage. Ugh. I know the dwarves have limited interest here on MFK, but what the heck right? Of course, for little guys, the males can get quite the little hump ... hence the mini-monster moniker. Of course, at only 1."-1.5", they still have quite a ways to go.

Nice looking male with hump here: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?457383-Laetacara-Araguaiae/page3

Laetacara araguaiae, aka Buckelkopf's ...

Sorry for the bad pics, best I had to work with was a camcorder. Last two are out of focus I know, but they were the best group and fin pattern shots of the 90+ I took.

Ah ha! I was browsing Aquabid, trying to figure out what you bought. I saw these but decided to pass -- I had Laetacara in every tank at one point last year and need a break from them. :D I've never owned this particular variety but the adults I've seen online are really handsome fish. Keep us posted!

Thanks. Yeah, probably not a huge surprise. I'm just an acara kind of guy (after my dwarf pikes cichlids of course). They've got some good color despite being so small. They are supposed to be even a touch more fiesty than L. dorsigera, so I might need to upgrade them in a bit. There is already some chasing going on. We'll see.

I figured you found some cool dwarf pike and I was going to end up dragging out more small tanks to get some.

Yup. I drove all the way out to APFP hoping they had gotten some in, but no. Sadly the shipping from WS was less expensive than the drive to APFP!!!

How much was it if you don't mind me asking? I know a few MFKers up in WA that have nice fish and I was wondering how much it would cost to ship em down here if ever needed.

If you're ever interested in WS fish in the future and need pictures or something just shoot me a PM.

Nice! I've been thinking about trying them for weeks....well still thinking :) How many did you get?

They came as 6 pack ... 3 males it looks like, 2 females, and 1 that could go either way. They are great, much more inquistive than the dorsigera I've kept. Within an hour of being in the tank they started to hunt for food. Day two they were begging for it. Very happy thus far.

I had them send UPS ground since WS is so close, which was only $15.

And I may just take you up on that offer some day. Any progress on the meet this year down there?
