Hello all, long time lurker, first time poster, I've seen some crazy things done around here so I know I'm in the right place for assistance of my crazy job. Hopefully you crazy sob's can help me out!

I'm well on my way to having my ultimate man cave in my house.. bar, pool table, flatscreen, couches, its missing one thing, a MONSTER fish tank. I've designed a tank in the 750+/- gallon range to seperate the 2 areas of the basement. It's L shaped, kind of a weird footprint, but thats what I'm after. Heres the basic idea:

Believe it or not, building the thing isn't my issue. 1" plywood with a decent frame surrounding it, no sweat. I can get my acrylic materials extremely cheap (almost free) so that's no issue either. I can build a stand to support the weight plus peace of mind too no prob. I also plan on making a custom canopy and capping the wall to give the whole thing a "built in" appearance. It's gotta be clean.

I run into a GIANT wall when it comes to filtration. I'm a total moron when it comes to this stuff. Plumbing scares the hell out of me. Right now I have a 180 with 3 biowheel HOB filters on it because I'm a filter noob. Its hideous and its loud. I want to completely know and understand what I'm doing before I do it, so I need some help. Whats the best way to go about this for this project? I've researched sumps and canisters for awhile now, I'm just curious for your opinions on this job in particular. Thorough explanations top to bottom would be great. From locations of overflows and returns to quick pipe schematics. This is going to be the new centerpiece of my sanctuary, so I don't want to skimp on it. I don't mind spending some extra cash if it'll meet my needs. I want it to be ultra quiet, I want it to be as low maintenance as possible (returns, dead spots, etc.), and I want to easily be able to do water changes.

So please, hook me up with the best possible solution for this, and what I'll need to do. Thanks!

i would deff do a sump for a tank that size. if u go to the diy forum then u can look at a bunch of different sump ideas. for my sump i use those plastic stackable drawers u can pick up form anywhere, http://www.target.com/p/Sterilite-4-Drawer-Plastic-Cart-with-Wheels/-/A-670240 something similar to this but cheaper. the top drawer is for mechanical filtration and the rest is for bio filration. it is easy to clean and maintain so i like the system. some people on here have used the same concept but with big 55gal trash cans. it will work the same and might be a better approach for a 750 gal tank.

Thanks for the feedback. Stackable drawers seem to be a fairly cheap option, are they quiet? I know the water has to be aerated, but is there a way to do this quietly?
