I decided my tank finally needed some plants, and I bought some of that vine-like stuff, dwarf mondos (i know they arent really aquatic), and 2 moss balls! I jammed the moss balls in the wood thingy!

Are they real "moss balls" or just wrapped up java moss?

They are sort of like rolled up turf. The LFS showed me how they open up and lay flat. They're pretty cool :)

very cool, like how u placed them, i have few my self. some very cool things about them if u google them

Are they Marimo moss balls? Because if they are, they're their own species and they occur naturally that way. You'll want to squeeze them every once in a while to get any gunk out and prevent common algae from overtaking them.

Tank, I think your being overlly modest about your balls.. go ahead and show him...

and yes, they are very cool... I have one, thought it would look out of place being it just sits there.. but no, it looks great. Recently took a lit peice off of it and stuffed it into a small creves in my wood... still waiting to see if it'll spread or not...

Looks nice, but are you supposed to cover the roots with big rocks like that? I don't know, it seems a little risky. It's as if you're burying the heart of the plant a little.

I have a baby marimo tuft I'm growing out right now. They're so cool!

They might be marimo balls? cause i was curious and i squeezed it a little and a lot of stuff just came out. I actually tried to rip it with a little bit of force but it doesnt really like to rip?

i've actually seen pics of your marimo balls, they do look similar, but mine are like golf-ball sized. do they grow relatively fast? and will my placement screw with their growth?

Oh, no, they're slow growers. You can expect the diameter to increase by about 5mm/year, and although the web says their max size is a diameter of 4 inches, I think I heard of someone on the site who'd seen ones with a diameter of 10 inches.

"In the wild" they apparently lie at the bottom of lakes and are constantly being turned by currents, I read soewhere that they do grow better with this constant turning.
