My new Motoros

I received these in from Aquascape online last Thursday 4/17/08. The male is 10.5" and the female is 6.5". They are a little beat up and I am hoping that you all here will be able to direct me as to what meds, if any, are necessary. I hope these pictures are able to represent the issues fully. The male (1st and last pic) has some type of parasite (worm?) around his right eye. The female looks as though she got mated with. They are eating a little, not as much as i would expect for fish with their body mass. (1-2 Canadian night crawlers per day) They are out and active quite a bit. The temp is 84deg I need to test my params today and I will get back on that. I added ~3 lbs of instant ocean salt. I know it is expensive but it was all i had on hand. The Ammonia indicator reads 0. I did a 50 gallon water change last night (170 gal total water volume.) UV sterilizer is on. I had it turned off the first few days to allow the bacteria to multiply. Filtration is a 75 gallon sump with ~30 gallons of bio balls. I cannot think of anything else any questions?

I just noticed something... Look at the differences in their tails. Does it look like the female may have some Flower in her, or retic?

use kosher salt not sea salt.... i have used sea salt in a pinch with no effect but was advised not to do it anymore.... kosher salt from your grocery store is cheaper and works the same..... add a double or triple dose of prazi pro to take care of the parasites and any internal ones it may have.... they are fresh rays so it may take a few weeks for them to really pound the food down....

With the salt and prazi pro they should heal up pretty quick as long as the water stays in tip top shape. I would not worry about how much they are eating at this point, as long as they are eating then they should be fine. As they get better their appetite will increase.

Forgot to add that your rays have really nice markings.

Thanks. I liked the chain link pattern around the outer disk.

Any ideas on the tail patterns? 3rd gen cross? different locale?

i can tell you columbian marbleds.... 3rd gen cross cant be said cause they are wild rays..... locale cant be known really....

is the patterning so shallow that it can be scratched and worn away. it almost looks like smeared paint.
