When the power went out in are house durring the ice storm this week my mp3 player fell victim to a power surge. So im look for a new one any suggestions. I need something that wont break easy and won't freeze up in the cold because im going to be useing it when i snowboarding. try to keep it under $150

New iPod nano your best bet but if your the type that losses small things then not for you but I used mine during snowboarding stayed in my little jacket pocket and was good I even got snow in it wiped it away no probs

is there even really a question her man? go get an ipod. don't want to pay full price, pick one up from a pawn shop. Atleast then you can see it and touch it unlike ebay

Bought my daughter a refurbished iPod and it has worked for 2 years.

I have a sony mp3 player that has been going strong for over 2 years. Gets alot of use when i work out, go to the grocery, listening in the office at work, and going fishing. Great battery life.Spent an $10 on a cheap rubber cover that has protected it well.

I ended up just getting anothere sony sansa fuze but not the new vertion of it i like last years vertion better. The reason i chose it is because it was super durible you could throw the thing across the room and it would still work and it never ever froze. I left in our truck for a week this winter and when i went out there to get it it turned right on still fully chrarged.

Temperature effects some, mostly all electronic devices, most are rated for +5 to +95 Celsius, working with the unit out of its operational parameters can effect performance.

However, with solid state memory chips the likelyhood that a system will physically freeze due to temperature is highly unlikely.

By solid state im referring to flash memory chips, LCD screens, and actual physical buttons with metal contacts.

HDD's will freeze in the cold temps, and prematurely wear out the drive
ColdCathods will burn out if they're run too cold
Resistive touchscreens, aswell as capacitive seem to degrade there ability to work when cold, I would assume the membrane would also become brittle and break.

Other factors come into play, like the type of battery and glass/plastic/metal used in the construction...but i don't know much about the specifics of mp3 players.

Personally, id recommend buying 3, 50$ mp3 players...apposed to 1 150$ load all of them up with different music, then insted of having 6 hours of music, you have 4*3, 12 hours of music...and when one explodes, which it will, you'll still have 2 others to use.

I have an Ipod Classic that stays in the glove box of my car at all times unless I am bringing it in to load new music on it. Me and the G/F have dubbed it the Fry Pod due to the heat in the summer. It's 4 years old and runs like brand new.

Have another 160G Classic that we call the Ride Pod. Only gets used when I'm out on the bike. Also 4 years old, had to replace the Headphone port 1 in 4 years and that failure was my fault completely.

There seems to always be a selection of them at the pawn shop around the corner.

I'd say IPod touch, but its expensive...... but worth it, and the app store has virtual aquariums and hand books and fish encyclopedias
