So I got a 300G and I don't want to get rid of my 120. But the only wall for the tank is where I'm going to put the 300g so this is what I came up with. Sump and filters for both tanks will go in the door left of the tank.

Ok now my question could I build a stand that looks like this that would be strong enough for the 300 not to have any braces where the 120g is. I would use 2x4, 4x4 and ply.

Skeleton of build would be based on this with modifications for 120g. I.e no brace infront and open on that side..

honestly the plans look good there... how much clearance are you planning on having above the 120? also I see you've labeled 4x4s but then in the second sketch its done with 2x4s? lol I'm just curious, because from my experience if you have the proper tool, do 4x4's because its a lot easier and I feel it makes it pretty sturdy... just heavy lol.

but the way you seem to have your stand planned out I think Ive seen a stand similar to what youve planned on mfk here so check it out it'd really help give you more ideas!

The picture below is just the skeleton I got from someone else i would use 4x4 in the places I explained. I was just measuring for clearance, I should have a good 6" of space above the 120. That's what's killing me right now actually, because for 6" clearance the stand would have to be 46" tall. So with my 30" tall 300 on top of that, i'm looking at the top of my tank at 76"-77".. you think that would be bad, or an eye soar?

Looking at the color diagram would it be ok for me to use 2x4 on top replacing the red 2x6 with a 2x4..

Assuming the 120 is a 6' tank I would not recommend it. You could go without bracing with multiple 2x6s spacing them 6"(ish) apart. Coming from the king of underkill I would not take a chance with 2000 pounds of tank.
