New nile monitor. is the enclosure ok?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Imo should be in a fully enclosed cage with dirt/sand substrate..looks like a wire top with wood chips which aren't good for humidity..

Dirt and sand? All the monitors in korea are kept in bark

Maybe that's how you guys keep them there but in the wild they live on sand/dirt not wood chips. ;)

They like to dig burrows and wood chips don't hold one too well.

I agree with changing the substrate. You may want to partially cover the top of the cage to increase humidity.

Dirt will increase humidity, they can grow to 6 feet and are very aggressive. They are escape artists as well and very smart. That won't last very long I say maybe a month if temp and feeding is right, don't really worry about humidity keep a water bowl large enough for it to submerge it's whole body, (you need a basking area temp 80+and a cool down area temp >75)What are you feeding it? If crickets use a calcium supplement to dust on them.
