New Odyssea P160 protein skimmer

Generates quite a lot of bubbles, however until I get a new sump it is hooked up "outside" the sump and the plumbing for this application is not terribly desirable. Had a hose slip last night and spray some water. Not something I wanted to wake up to but nothing bad. Clamped that on and probably just going to silicone it together, but I dont like that it would be "permanent" that way. I think it could use a mesh mod but skeptical on that process as I dont want to ruin a new pump. Just in the break in period but I dont expect much in the way of waste at this point as it is a fairly new setup with hardly anything in it right now. Any tips on a mesh mod?

it is actually collecting some foam this afternoon to my surprise. Any thoughts on the mesh mod? Especially anyone who has experience with this type of unit.

I think you are the first person on here to try one.

I have one sitting in my basement that I got for free, might hook it up to my 55g sump once that is done just to get some added foam action.

No idea on the mesh-mod. Heathd is the skimmer modder and he is busy re-doing his kitchen or some non-sense like that. I told him to get back her in a conversation last night. Apparently he has lost track of priorities.

what is a mesh mod? never herd of it.

mesh mod is where you modify the needle wheel/impeller by taking off some of the needles and wrapping it in mesh to produce more and finer microbubbles. I am fairly satisfied with this product for the money, as it is collecting gunk already, but unhappy with the current plumbing which will be ok once it sits in a sump or silicone the hoses together to avoid more leaks/water fountains in my stand.

It does seem pretty comparable to the old Coralife super skimmer

How soon till you get it sumped?

Maybe you can just replace the siliconed parts when that time comes? Silicone comes off pretty easily I find.

its a sump right now, just a small one so only the pump sits in it while the skimmer itself is outside the sump. I think I will silicone it and just mod or repair it down the road. I have it clamped right now and would hate to shut it off for a couple days since its finally warming up and collecting some gunk.

as per request, some action shots. seems to be working well. going to silicone the hoses tonight and leave it off a couple days to cure.
