so ive started on cleaning out my tank. it was used to keep turtles in and then was left outside for the summer. i filled it up with no problem, but theres a few things im worried about. in the first pic the connecter bar (idk what its called) has broken off from one side making the one side curve out. should i be worried and try to fix this? and in the other 2 pics there are cracks in the bottom part. should these be fixed?

Howdy,

The broken center brace might be a problem since it prevents the back and front panes to bow out under water pressure. You didn't mention any dimensions, thus, I give you the general advice that you should fix that, possibly by siliconing a glass bar in its place.

As for the corner, that's mostly cosmetic as I can see.

I personally say toss it, the tank is already bent out of shape due to a lack of a center brace, you cannot fix this unless you replace the panes of glass. All those cracks, missing stuff i say its junk. That piece of glass could/will explode in the near future, no telling when/how but there is a good chance.

Good luck

thank you for the replies :) the dimensions are 4x1x1 1/2. if anyone knows how many gallons it hold that would be helpful. im going to put a center brace in and see how it hods up. the people i got it from say theres really no chance of anything happening. i really hope it wont explode!

Well i wish you luck. I wouldn't be suprized if you got the measurements wrong and its actually a 55g because i really don't see many 44g laying around. What are you going to put in it? it would be a good hospital tank but a little rough for a show tank

44.88g/169.9 liters

i probably did get the measurment wrong. no tape measure at the time so i cut string and measured it later :) my oscar that i have now is going in it. hes in a 25 right now a grew out of it so fast so this will be his new home. could i put anything in there with him?

44g, maybe like 1-2 plecs thats it. if it is a 55g, maybe like the oscar, a few plecs, maybe a small school of Silver dollars and maybe like a single convict, but that is overload a bit. I cant wait to see it!

sweet :)

now all i need is a stand and filter.
any suggestions on filters?
i see a lot of people have more than one on a tank, is this nessacary?
