So I went to the local fish store to pick up a Delhizi bichir that I saw the previous week for $36. When I went to the store though, they had already sold the bichir. Feeling down, I went to the petco just a few blocks away. It was there that I saw an ornate bichir for $59. It was only about 3.5 to 4 inches long and slightly thin (as they tend to be in stores) but otherwise healthy. I took him home but looking at the Senegal bichir that I currently have in my grow out tank, I felt that the 6" Senegal could perhaps eat the 4" ornate. So I put in a nursery box and a piece of pvc and released the little ornate into solitary safety. I was worried as I didn't see the ornate eat the first day at all, just swam around. Then I introduced some small plant clippings and it seemed to relax a bit more. Just before I went to bed last night I saw him munch on a bit of food that I had fed a few hours earlier. Took a load of worry off, I didn't want to watch him waste away. I am excited as this is the 2nd ornate I have now, and perhaps it will end up a male that could perhaps pair with my female. Only time will tell....

Do you guys think it wise to keep him in the nursery box? Or should the Senegal be fine with him?

Wouldn't hurt to chunk it up a little bit, but once he gets a belly on him he should be able to go in with the Senegal.
