Woot finally got to pick up ma new baby! And a small butterfly to finish off the tank (when the bichir's move out). Sorry about the fuzziness working on it. Crappy camera, 2 pictures = dead batteries.

I am noob to Bichirs, so please wait till some expert confirms the part below:

Keeping Ornate bichirs with white sand will cause their colors to be washed out and really dull.

The ideal substrate for Ornate Bichirs is as dark as possible to keep that deep coloration on the fish.

Yeah, this is their grow out though and it's white because I got it for free lol. I wanted black sand but got 50 lbs of white for free so that's why I'm using it In the 180 there's darker substrate.

I hope not either. I'm actually in the process of swapping out some white sand in with black. I don't have enough for full black but I can do a mix of white/black and possibly dark red. :S better than solid white I think though. Maybe it will confuse him with all the colours that he will have to keep his spots? or change them! (lol probably not)
