Greetings everyone!! I appreciate all the feedback; I am looking at some tanks from glasscages.com and I believe I will go with a 100 gallon in a couple of weeks. Any thoughts on the best shape of tank for the oscars (3)? I have some questions 1) I have started to feed them pellets, but they won't eat. I am trying to be firm but I am beginning to cave in. Any thoughts on this? 2) I know I can't be the first to do this, but I was getting worried about the small tank (10 gallon) that they were in and made a temporary home out of an unused but clean bath tub ( I can feel the love coming-not). I measured the dimensions and have closely approximated it to hold just at 50 gallons. I am using a Aquaclear Power filter, which is good for 60-110 gallon tanks and filters 500 gph. I have added the Stress coat, Stress zyme, and Ammo loc. I was also told to add some aquarium salt (about 1 table spoon per 10 gallons). I have not added any decor to the tank-tub; I will be moving them to a more permanent home soon. At the moment they are not swimming; if I had to guess I would say they are scared from the move. I did put my hands in the water to fan them and they would swim away. I guess thats a good sign. Any advice on my unorthodox tank? Besides putting them in a real tank that is!! Thanks for any help, Tom.

I know from being an Oscar owner myself, that you will only be able to house 2 full grown oscars in a 100 gallon tank, they need at least 50 gallons each for maximum growth. Keep feeding the pellets, they will eventually eat them. Use a little tough love on them they can actually go 3 weeks without food. They will not starve themselves. I do not recommend feeders as they do cause disease in fish. The bathtub idea is odd, but alot better than the 10 gallon tank. I don't see a need for salt, that usually is only used to treat cuts and scrapes as Oscars are clumsy and run into tank decor alot. When you do get your big tank, the more filtration the better, these are messy little fish. My Oscars are in their own 55 gallon tanks and Rosey is about 9" TL and Bob is about 8" TL. I love my babies. Any more questions just ask.LOL:D

Your oscars are "sulking", stressed out, and pi$$ed! Even though oscars are very hardy fish, you'll need some luck to get them through all the stress that comes from a new tank cycle. They can get HITH, bacterial infections, and viral infections brought on by the stress and bad water conditions. Not a bad idea to actually have your tank setup and cycled before you acquire fish. :D Good luck!

Oscars are pretty easy to spook so theyre probably just stressed from the move.If youre sure there was no soap residue in the tub and your filter is cycled, water parameters good it sounds like a fine temporary tank.At least waterchanges will be easy:D

Yes oscars are a very messy fish and get spooked easly when i first got my oscars i fed them pellets and the grew very fast then i started to feed them frozen blood worms. I have noticed my oscar is a very picky eater so maybe try a different kind if pellets.
