Hi.
New guy.
Finally started planning for the new tank after several house moves.
The planned tank will be 7x2.5x2.5.
Filtration i will probally glue up a ball loaded wet dry sump out of a spare three footer in the shed.
There is an fluval fx5 in there i might hang for mech filtration.
I think that gives me about 320 odd gallon tank ill call it that with the sump to account for in tank furniture.
Going to try glueing silk plants to the bottom and make a fair bit of the tank kinda reedy looking.
Im austrailian too. I type like i talk.
The plan was for six oscars but i recon that would be cutting it on the short side of the minimum.
So its gonna be four and a big plec or two. Probally one. Meh i dunno. Maybe two.
Just a couple of questions i though someone might be able to help me with.
Has anyone used the sulphur based nitrate filters and are they any good?
And four tiger O's and probally two gibbyceps too much in a tank that size?
Id like to keep a pretty high level of water quality with out rediculous amounts of maintance.
I had a 125 g tank with two O's and a plec and that wasnt to bad but work and kids and yadadada and bugger all time for much else?
Was thinking of building it out of ply but a tank that size im not sure it would be worth it.
Any help most apreciated.

With Oscars and Plecos you'll have a pretty good amount of maintenance as they both are messy and have a pretty big bio load.

I'd avoid the Pleco, just a personal opinion. I see no problem with 4 Oscars in a 320 gallon. You could get away with six if you'd like, in my opinion. However the water changes will be pretty heavy. There's not much you can do about that anyway.

just set up a drip system for water changes, thats that problem sorted, add an entire lid of pothos to help out if ya like? could get some bottom feeders to sift the substrate like clown loaches or four lined pims. could do a smaller pleco like an l001, these look exactly like gibbi but max out at 12 inch... sounds like a great setup for 4 o's if you luck out and get 6 o's that get close to 14 inch its gonna look cramped. i had a 14 inch butti in my 7ft 300g and it was a presence, chunky big lump... a 14 inch oscar is about 2x the weight of a 11 inch oscar.

PLECOS AND OSCARS ARE SUPER MESSY. 3 oscars and and a pleco would be perfect and thats pushin it. If you think about it one oscar needs a 75g tank. 3x75= 325 plus the pleco who in reality needs a 75 gallon too but since it stays out of the way it should fit right in.

Think i might knock the size back to 7x2x2 and just go with two tiger o's and a gibby. Still run the sump and the fx5. Wont be as epic but should be still pretty sweet. Its what i had in my old 4x2x2 and they did alright. I miss my oscars. Cant wait to get them back in my house. The universe just dont feel right with out them.

Haha missus give me the all cool for an 9lx3w2.5h 500 gallon bohemoth.
My six tigers and two plecs might be back on the cards.
Went to a guys house with a school of about thirty o's in a moster of a tank.
Coolest thing ive ever seen.

sounds cool, any pics?

Nah i was there on a job years ago. Back when only rich folk had cameras.
