I picked up a female tiger oscar at my local cichlid store, she is about 7 inches.. If it's possible can you tell me the age? 7 inch female tiger oscar.

its really impossible to tell if you dont know how she was housed before, if grown under optimal conditions she could be around 8-9mnths old but if she was housed in horrible conditions and is stunted then there really is no way to know

I just read that they can grow as fast as one inch per month. Not a reliable source, but I have heard this before about oscars, and saw how fast, although I didn't keep track, when I previously had them.

I don't know what the threshold is, as most fish slow down drastically in regards to growth, at a certain age.

I read on another site that a 2-3 year old fish could be 9-12 inches depending on environment.
I would fare to guess that your fish may be between 7 months at youngest to 1.5 years old.
Just edumacated guesses though :)

1 inch per month is a good estimate of how fast my little oscar has grown. I bought him almost exactly two months from today. He was tiny, about 1.5" then, now pretty close to 4 inches. Every day I come home from work I look at him and size him up, expecting to see him slightly bigger.

How can you tell its a female?

Post a pic of the oscar please? But to prove she's a female they had to see her lay eggs, which means she's stunted. Or they had to vent the fish, which only experienced personnel should attempt.........
