I was contacted by someone who asked if I'd be willing to come pick up a fish he no longer wanted. I asked him what kind of fish is it. "I dont know". Well can you take a picture of it? ...he sent me this

Yeah... SMH. That orange blob is a dead goldfish. It smelled SO bad. But look what I found in that cess pool.

This is in Laz's old tank. There are no other fish in there right now. Time to go read up on polys again. Is that black patch an injury or just coloration? Its in the scales not just on the surface. Tips on behaviors that indicate trouble? As bad as that tank was, I wouldnt be surprised if this poor thing still croaks.

Yeah its not an open wound. Just wasn't sure if its a bruise, a old injury, or the only marking of color on this fish. I'm not really into polys so I'm not sure of its value. I didn't pay anything for it. It's around 8inches long. Pretty stressed right now so I added several hides amd turned out the lights after those pics. Will see how its doing when I get home from work in the morning.

It probably survived because they take in oxygen from the surface. It was nice of you to save the Senegal Poly.:)

They couldn't have survived all these millions of yrs without being tough right. I just hate seeing an animal forced by lazy negelect to live in squaller. Its one thing for a wild fish to tough it out in a shrinking pool during the dry seasons. Its angering to see someone keep a captive animal this way tho.

Hello; A few years ago a neighbor couple was moving out of their home. They called me over to see if I wanted the two fish they had. One fish died before I got there. The tank looked bad as does the one pictured.
I took the other which was a common pleco. I kept it for a time until it outgrew my tanks. I was able to get a good area fish shop (The Aquarium on Papermill in Knoxville TN.) eventually to take it. (for free of course). The pleco was in good shape and well over 14 inches by then.

That looks like a decent fish. I hope it works out for you.

Thank you. I probably wont keep it tho. I hold onto rescues for about a yr. Every summer I throw a party for my fish geek friends and they are allowed to adopt any thing in the fish room that is in a lit tank. This one will go quick I'm sure

Hello; Must be nice to have fish geek friends close by. There may be others around me but I do not know of any. The closest fish shops are at least 50 miles away. Limits my fish activity somewhat. Not so much of a problem as my fish activity has diminished as I get older. Turned 71 last month.
