Whelp, I finally managed to get myself a bichir, though the pet store guy insisted it was a palmas, I really don't think it is. Oh well, he's a cutie nonetheless!

Where are mah foods?

It might just be sleep deprivation talking, but that almost looks like a juvie Longfin senegal to me... if so congrats!! I've seen sens labeled as palmas too, apparently palmas is "bichir" in a another language or something like that.

cue the experts...

I paid about $12 more than I would at Petsmart, but he's both bigger and FAR healthier than the sens I could get at Petsmart, so I'd say the extra $12 was worth it (paid $20 for him). They had an ornate for $50, but he was a little out of my price range. If he's still there after my college's winter break I might go back and get him, but I don't think they'd both fit in the 20. Thanks for the confirmations! Good to know my species IDing hasn't gone down the tubes. :D

here it is, from the show off your polypterus thread:

In Indonesian language, palmas = bichir. :)

I know segrest farms (fish supplier) lists their polys as palmas, and I know they had longfins available about a month ago when I saw the last stocklist, so I'm guessing you got what I missed out on.

Maybe I'm just seeing things, but it looks like there's plumage on the doral finlets of your senegal, more than either of mine ever had...
