I bought a little hybrid parrot fish today.
It's still very small but it looks like a convict X parrot fish cross to me.
Just wanted others opinions on what it is to make sure.

Looks like a veija x parrot hybrid to me, either that or a low quality flowerhorn x parrot hybrid. Usually when a convict hybridizes with something, the fry are going to keep mostly convict traits. The only convict hybrid that I've seen that didn't look like a convict was a convict x salvini and that one ended up looking more like a salvini rather then a convict. I don't know why but for some reason it seems that when ya cross breed a convict with most anything it just ends up looking like a weird and sometimes colorful convict.
Keep us posted on this lil guy tho. I'm kind of curious on how it'll look when it starts putting on some size. Might be easier to ID as well when it's bigger. Definitely a neat find tho regardless of what it is.
That's a little bitty guy! You're gonna have to watch to make sure that gold barb doesn't whoop it! JK
It looks like a regular parrot to me. I agree with Magnus Bane about the convict traits being dominant. I've had parrot x convict hybrids before and they definitely were closer to the convict type.
Thanks guys. I've seen a few parrot x convict hybrids that look like that when very small but most do look like more like normal convicts.
It would be cool if it was something else though because I barley see any types of cichlids in my area.

Just be prepared for some aggressive behavior once it grows up. If ya have it with allot of smaller fish I would keep a careful eye on it just to make sure it ain't going to eat anybody else. Parrots tend to be pretty peaceful "for cichlids" but if it's part Flowerhorn or Veija it might end up with a more aggressive personality. It just depends on how it's personality changes after it becomes mature on whether it'll cohabitate or not.
