My wife and daughter just picked these up for the tank. They are joining 7 blood parrots, three oscars, senegal poly and a rope...and a really lucky goldfish! My wife picked out the one with the trimac pattern, my daughter picked the other. I know they are low grade but i still like them. What ya'll think?

They are different... If you like em I like em...;) I think what really matters here is that your wife and daughter like them... They are who counts not us! I don't think I have ever seen BP's that aren't red. Maybe just as juvi's. How big are they?

Small Blood Parrots are supposed to look like the gray one you have there. They turn orange with age. The other one looks like it's either starting to get its true red color or it was painted. I've seen parrots with all sorts of painted designs on them........

Both my parrots were bought with black on them or full gray, its how they are born , withing a month they will start turning full orange :)

they are both 3-4" TL. I dont think these are regular BP and i dont think they will turn orange as I have bought some of my BPs at the size of a quater and they came bright red. They are more than likely BPs mixed with mutt cichlids. one appears to be mixed with a trimac and the other a mix with a mutt cichlid.

I agree with your mutt theory. The baby BPs I've bought all colored up at about an inch or an inch and half.

i bought already at a largish size once that had pitch black markings like a midas/red devil he turned bright orange months later.
