So this is my first time trying to raise any peacock bass, and from what I’ve read they can go through an extended period of sulking, which is definitely happening with two new 3.5” arrivals I picked up 6 days ago. I currently have both pbass in a 150gal isolation tank until they are large enough to put into a public display with Largemouth, Walleye, and Blue cats. Neither is feeding, and I have tried 1.5-2” toughie minnows, cut up earth worms, frozen fish chunks, and pellet food. Both appear to be in good health and have no visible symptoms of disease. Due to the nature of the isolation tank (fed off one display aquarium with an overflow return) using a heater doesn’t work and the current tank temp is 73*. Once another independent isolation tank has finished cycling, I can keep them in 80* water. Is their hiding/sulking/ refusal to eat for almost a week normal, or should I go ahead and put them in the new tank which is cycling?

Params are:

Current tank: 73* pH 8.6 NH3 0.01 NO2 0.017 NO3 10.1

Future tank: 74.8* pH 8.8 NH3 0.11 NO2 0.358 NO3 2.6

I'm also a beginner in keeping pbass but I think they do best in warmer temps 83-84...I've read some people even do higher than that. I just got three Azuls and they started eating after 1-2 days.

What did your LFS feed them befoee u got them? Maybe try feeding them that?

The water should be a good 82-86 if possible. I never have problems with them eating within the first few days. Try frozen food like blood worms or brine shrimps. PH also might be a little high. They should be good in 6.5-7 I do hear people going higher than 7 but not sure how it goes.

Thanks, I moved them to a 500gal grow out tank set to 80 and the difference is night and day. LFS was feeding feeder goldfish. I think they are eating now, there were definately less toughys when I came in today. I do a formalin/salt dip so im not sure if they just dies and got sucked up by the filter though. Im not 100%, but do that look like Oce to yall?

I would place my bet on orino because the red lining on the eyes, also the long dark 3 bars looks more orino significant.

Also I'll say on ph out here in az it comes out of the tap at 7.6-7.8 and I don't adjust it for mine just add salt every so often and prime they don't seem to mind but it's probly also why they haven't tried breeding
