new pbass owner has some questions

so i went to my lfs today to browse around and i mentioned it was my birthday on thursday, ell they were nice enuff to give me a pbass for practically free, 5 bucks, hes about 2.5". so here it goes....

1. they said they've been feedin him worms, id imagine black worms, he didnt take any yet but id imagine thtas cuz hes new to the tank. should i move him onto feeders or keep him on live and frozen bloodworms?

2. r they social? they only had 1 or i would have gotten 3, but would he prefer to be part of a pack or will he be good alone?

3. hes in with my 4" african bfly, 6" redtailed shark, 10" ornate bichir and 6" rapheal catifsh, and i have a NGT commin the mail, see any prospective problems here? i mean other than he will be able to eat the shark, catfish, and b-fly in few months :)? my ngt will be 4 inches when he arrives, think the pbass will grow too fast and eat him?

4. how fast do these dudes usaually grow, and when do they start to color up?

5. how big of a fish could a 12" pbas eat? would my bichir be in danger?

also i would welcome any suggestion u would have as far as care of my monster to be :naughty:
 
Pbass are pretty social, I have three and they are great together. I would try to get him onto frozen food asap. Ive feed mine earthworms without problems and frozen krill.

Your bichir will be in danger and in a couple of months your NGT will be too.
 
ok, so i did some readin up and came up with some good stuff, warm water , lots of good food.

ill have to figure sumthin out when he gets a little bigger........... eating the lame fish is ok but we cant have him eating the bichir and datnoid. i have a tank for the shark but id have to work sumthin out for the others......., about how big do u think hell have to be to eat a 4" fish? scince hes a bass id recon hed have to be about the same size as his prey. that gives me 2 months?

i had a bad feeling about buyin him, but its so hard to say no when u know that someones tryin to b nice, especaily when u only understand every other word they say....if worse comes to worse the LFS might get him back in a couple of months

id actually be suprised if he makes through the night, the bichir is eye'in him right now, after lightsout it could be carnage...............
 
the lfs probably gave him to you because of him being the last one and probably had more fish on the way. Anyways I wouldn't count on him eating your fish, some have pbass that live well with pikes, silver dollars, etc. Just depends but imo get him on pellets asap to help him not want to eat his friends..

You could buy some more pbass to make him more comfortable but only if you're planning on a huge tank. If not a solo specimen with other sp would be cool and he should be ok.
 
ya, im gonna grow him up and see if theres any colflicts, if there r then bybye pbasss, but other than that, ittl be fun while i have him, and hes pretty darn cute if u ask me :)
