A few days ago I purchased a Pbass (4"-5") I have him alone in a 40Gal. till he grows big enough for my 160gal. My question is, he/she seems a little on the shy/scared side and he hangs out all day at the bottom in the corner, he swims very little when I feed him, he just waits till the feeders are close to him and then he munchs them down. I checked the water ( ph, hardness, alkalinity, nitrite & nitrate) & they are all good.I tought they were very active, is something wrong or is this normal and he is just getting used to the tank.... (the tank is bare, no decorations) What is the Problem?....

bare tank.. possibly, your cichla will grow out of being shy... do a search or look through the first few pages of this forum, you will find plenty of helpful info ;)

whats the temp at, it might be a little cold, but most the small guys will be like that and will grow out of it in time.

peacock bass like decorations and other fish.. if they are alone in a tank, especially with no decorations they will make themselves as small and invisible as possible.

if you want to see your peacock bass move and swim you need to make it feel like it's home. rocks, gravel, places to hide and swim around and other fish (preferably compatible fish) will make all the difference.

when we brought our first 3 peacock bass home we also brought home an RTC and a couple weeks later we bought 3 Angelfish for the tank because we couldn't find the RTC and the peacock bass were always hiding. After we got the angelfish they started coming out and swimming more and after we brought the oscars home we finally had a community that the peacock bass felt comfortable swimming around in. (i'm NOT telling you to go and buy oscars.. lol)

Thanks Guys, the temp is @ 82/83 and today I'm gonna buy some gravel & decorations, I really wanted 2 Pbass but the LFStores don't have many that come in here in Los Angeles, I will keep on searching till I get 1 more. :headbang2:headbang2
