To start I am a new member to MFK. I have setup an all glass 75gal with a DIY sump system. At the moment I have two bass at about 5in, and have had the tank running for one month. It is still in the process of fine tuning the equipment and chemistry.
I have a question regarding balancing the chemistry... the tank may still be cycling based on the params of the water, but i cannot seem to control the nitrites. I understand the nitrogen cycle, but was wondering if anyone had any "tricks" to speed up the process of Beneficial Bacteria growth.
Any advice is appreciated -Ron

Turning the heat up a bit has been said to help speed things along.I have no idea if it really helps though. And with fish already in the tank, you probably don't want to mess with the temperature too much. There really is no way to control nitrites other that with water changes. The nitrites always take the longest to drop to 0ppm.I used Tetra Safe Start when the cycle in one of my 55's crashed and it helped.Other than that, just keep an eye on it and keep up with the water changes until the bacteria can keep up with the bio load.
