Well, I stumbled across this little guy while combing through the selection at a LFS. When I saw it, I knew I had to have it. I believe it's a sheatfish, and from what I can tell it looks like a Bleekers Sheatfish. He's a bit beat up, but seems healthy enough. I think he was fed live most of the time, but he mouthed a piece of tilapia last night, so I'm hoping he will actually take it tonight.

He's isolated in a 40br right now - temp between 80-82, filtration is an AC110. I plan to move him into my 120 community once he puts on a bit more size. Right now he's around 7".

Any advice on keeping these things? Do's and Do not's?

And finally - screw you ROB! I don't think I'd ever heard of these things until you mentioned them a while back.

What the heck LFS are you finding stuff like this at??? Too cool.

I only know of one or two decent places anywhere near this area, I'm obviously not seeing every store.

PM me if you don't want to say it on here.

That's what I was thinking..I have relatives in the area and could keep the shops in mind if I'm down there visiting.

No reason not to mention, other than the fact that they're not a sponsor here: beltway aquarium in Greenbelt, MD. Not really "local" for me since it's a 45 minute drive, but hey.

Thanks TBTB. I will comb through these threads tonight.

And I still stand by my "screw you Rob" statement, but it's more on behalf of my wife :)

Haha you're still welcome. ;)

He's a gorgeous little fish. How big is he? Can you see the teeth? Is the iridescence more prominent in person than in the pics?

Haha that's where I figured it came from. Definitely the best oddball selection in the area. Did they have any wolf fish (besides malas) there?

How's this guy doing so far, are they nocturnal or is he active in the tank when you watch him?

I think they still have a decent sized black wolf. I originally thought it was an aimara, but I'm not sure anymore. They do have a BUNCH of mala's right now though. Lots of cheap, medium sized silver arowanas as well. There is also a tank of legit Armatus, but he knows it and the price is up there for my wallet.

In regards to my new sheathfish, this guy is driving me nuts. Hasn't eaten since I got him home. I've tried pellets, raw shrimp, tilapia, and I even caved and bought feeders this afternoon.

He mouthed the tilapia once or twice, but never bothered to fully eat it and spit it out.

I'll admit, I'm starting to worry a bit.
