Hey, this is a pick up i got about a week ago from my favorite lfs. I try to visit them 2 or 3 tims a month just to see how they're doing how see their new stock. Anyways i was shocked when i saw this golden ck, he was being kept in a 40ish with another clown knife. Previously with 2 large oscars and 1 jag. Appon seeing him i just had to get him, he's pretty beaten up; he's a fighter though and i think he'll make a full recovery. The only thing that really concerns me is that theres 2 large cuts in his under fin. The cuts go all the way up to his body and after a week show no sign of healing. They had him on feeders since he was young, (he's about 12 inches) so getting him on feeders isn't gonna be easy, but for now i'm gonna give him feeders. I don't wanna diprive him of food when he needs the energy.
What my question is, what would be the best way to treat this little guy
his small scrapes and cuts are starting to heal but theres still those deep fin cuts.

He's in a 125 with my other ck, they're the same size and are doing fine together.

heres some pics i took, (crappy cellphone pics)

oh, the pics might imply that he has popeye. i assure you that he doens't though. Just large eyes, but they don't extrude from the socket.

Higher the temp to 80-84 and add some salt about 1 tsp per 5g. I got my asian knifefish and it was beaten up badly at the lfs so they gave it to me for free. It got cloudy and popping eye and with plenty of cuts and even the fins were rotting. It recovered in 3 week and now doing good in my tank.

This is him now at 12"

yes +1 on upping temp as high as possible. 85 is cherry. salt up. my bgk had rips that deep healed fine. make sure the ck has a spot he can relax if theres tankmates stilll... give him a cave to lick his wounds in. lol.

took the advice as of yesterday, added the salt, but unfortunately i have an under powered heaters, and I can only get the water temp to about 80-82. Thanks for the help though. I'll try to keep you posted with pics of his recovery. :headbang2

I had a goldfish once with really deep wounds, I caught him and put neosporin on them , and they healed really fast. Not sure if you can do it with CKs though
