Was at my lfs a few days ago to pick up a baby RTC for my pond, but ended up leaving with 4 uaru instead. I am loving these guys so far, seem like really laid back fish, not to shy neither. I will update and post more pics when the tank is finished.
I will not lie, other then a little bit of research i do not no much about these guys so any advice will help and be appreciated. Also i was wondering if i could put 6 baby clown loaches in with the uaru's, will they all get along or will the uaru's beat up the loaches?

Lights have been off for awile already.

loaches will be fine. You are one lucky guy Uaru that size arnt seen often, and defiantly not at a LFS. Very nice pick up. and you dont even need to worry about the unsuitability of the youngsters as they are full grown and at that size very hardy. If you would like to get rid of these at any point please let me know. I will be in Miami on the 10th-15th are you close to miami? Did the store have any more of these? Price any info would be awesome.

Stay on top of water changes because Uaru are sensitive to nitrates and will develop HITH pretty easily. They will eat anything but are heavily herbivorous and should have some green food in their diet. Mine loved Romaine lettuce, sometimes shelled peas, algae wafers, etc. They will chew on most things in your tank from plants (fake or real) to driftwood to filter sponges.

I've never seen large Uaru in any of our LFS up here. I don't even know of many good independent stores anymore. Were they a trade-in maybe?

Wow what a find! Like everyone else said, finding Uaru in a LFS is strange enough but at that size & in such good health...had to have been a trade-in.

Thank you. I got these from a lfs in cape coral, about 2 hours north of miami. I asked the owner and he said they did get these from a friend on a trade in. I picked up the 4 pack for only a 100 bucks. From my understanding this is very cheap.

I have a few questions, its been awile and they settled in but now 2 of them are constently beating up on the smaller of the 4 and not really messing with the medium size 1,and the 2 stay in one corner.
Also i cant get them to eat anything besides lettuce. Is it bad if i feed them lettuce everyday?

Though they are primarily herbivorous, lettuce really isn't going to provide them with enough nutrition. Have you tried frozen bloodworms? I've never had a uaru refuse those. Try getting them on something like that, then eventually switch them over to pellets.

They're probably beating up the smallest fish because the pecking order has now changed since being moved. Like discus, they tend to need a group to spread out the aggression so that it's not targeted on one fish. If the small fish appears constantly stressed or if they're doing damage to it, you may have to separate it. Be aware that doing this will probably cause them to turn their aggression toward the middle fish, though.

I should have mentioned tank size. What size tank are they in, and do they have tankmates? I had to use large tanks (150 gallons+) with adult uaru. This may curb their aggression some if the smaller fish has room to get away and give the larger fish their space.

For that size fish, the price you paid was great. 3 - 4" uaru can run $20 - 30 each, so adults would probably net you at least $50 a piece, maybe $75 for really large ones in good shape (as these appear to be).

Right now they are in a 75 gall. Dimensions are 51"L. 21'W.17'H
Will be upgrading to a 150gall but it wont be for about a month or so.
After they settled in they dont really fight anymore like they were, just a few bumps here and thier. Also tankmates are
5 1inch silver dollar
10 black neons
10 headlight tetras
8 panda cats
1 unknown cat??
Ill get a few pics up in a bit.
