Ok so it's been alomst since I got my GATF that I have posted pics of him. Most of you know the story I bought 5 of then early this year and this guy is the only one left. He was one of the smallest when I got him. He was around 3.5-4" then now he's about 6-6.5 and starting to color really well. the pics don't show his color well at all b/c the black background but his tail is getting a decent shade of red and his adipose fin is turning black.

and the last pic is what he's been doing to feeders. this one is still alive. the only reason I haven't taken it out of the tank is b/c I'm hoping he finishes him off. but taking there tail is not what he commonly does. usually he takes a HUGE bite out of the chest cavity of the golds. right behind the gill plate. I'll find them dead floating on the surface with no chest once or twice a week.

Poor goldie, lol...
The GATF looks great. Is this one of the ones from TFD?

I couldn't tell ya if it was or not. It's a 50/50 chance. I bought three from them. One died then I bought 2 more from a member here and now I ahve one left so I can't be sure where this one came from b/c they were all so close in size. with the exception of one guy. Who was pushing 7" when he died. That one was a hard one.

Great update Koop! Lookin' good

thanks. I've been thinking ofer getting him a small tankmate or two just to see what he would do. but I really don't care. I'm one person out of a few that just doesn't care that this one 6" fish has 125 gallons to himself. lol One lucky fish if you ask me. :)

Nice fish. How did all the others die? GATF's don't like larger feeders when they are small. Try using smaller feeders or rosie reds. I have heard of GATF's choking and dying on feeders that were too big for them. If they have to take chunks out like you mentioned, then they are too big.

Two died of stress b/c they had to many tank moves in a smal period of time. and onegot fried by a heater and the other got ate b/c I put them in a tank with two ornates that were over 12" and they got hungry.

I have used roseys in the past but I don't like them. These fish are designed to eat fish 1/2 there size if they want to. so i'm not worried about them choking. Most any pred. fish will eat something larger then it should if it has the chance.

nice GATF!
poor feeders...

lol sometimes I can get to the LFS when they have a brand new batch of tiny golds and he doesn't chunk them like that. but oh well. it's not all the time he eats like that. I think that it's a combo of he the fact that he's got multilpefeeders in there with him so he has a choice and once he's got a bite the chase is over so he moves on.

Nice!
