Oregon, it's part of 'Murica!
Wow, he looked smaller in the tank they had him in. Hes easily a 12". Payed $60 for him and traded the store my 5" green texas. Shop owner says he has had him for about a year and a half. I will post better pics as he settles.

1. Is this a Kamalau?
2. Male or female. I am thinking male.
3. Worth the $60?
4. What would a Kamalau x Parrot be?

Looks like an Old School ZZ/ZZ malau than a Kamalau... Not worth the $60 IMO. Its a male.

Ummm, looks to have a lot of ZZ in him. Kamalau? Possibly but I'm not seeing much of it. Definitely a male for sure, as far it being worth $60? I wouldn't take it for even $20 IMO. But that's just me, if it makes you happy then go for it.
Kamalau x BP = Kamalau. It doesn't quite give you a Kamfa regardless what anyone says, the recipe isn't that simple. But I'm sticking with this fish being a ZZ in my book of identifying flowerhorns.

Well I am happy with it. This is the best I will ever find without ordering online and I don't like to order online. Most you seen in stores here are such poor quality. He was more pearly earlier before we messed with him.

IMO not worth the 60 bucks but if you like it that is all that matters. Not a kamfa either, def a ZZ. Hopefully he/she gets a little pearlier and bigger head with time. Good luck with it.

Yeah I wouldnt have payed anything close to $60 for this fish. Thats just me because personally Im not into trimac looking fish. Im not exactly sure what to call this guy other than ZZ. Definatly not Kamalua. Low-grade old school ZZ. Not a bad looking fish, Just doesnt have the features enthusiasts look for.

What makes a flowerhorn Kamalau?
A monkey type kamfa or gold monkey. I believe only the originals were called Kamalau which dont really exist anymore, So Kamalau is not necessarily an actual strain anymore.
