New pickup: Vieja maculicauda (Blackbelt cichlid)

Got a new fish this weekend, a Vieja maculicauda aka the Blackbelt cichlid. Got it for $19.99. They said it was a female but I dont know how to sex these guys. Any ideas? Sorry for the crapy cellphone pic

Fish had gotten beaten up by another Vieja so the tail is just growing back. Should be good in a few weeks...

I cannot tell the sex but i think it is a beautiful BB and wait until it settles in ...then the colors will really be vivid... nice pick up.. i have two and they are very nice fish...

Awsome! Has a very defined belt. How big? These are one of my favorite cichlids.

thanks! yeah its an awesome fish and has a very nice sheen to it. its about 6" right now. they said the "male" BB was bigger, but somebody had already bought that one

Nice , i have got a 8inch one had him/ her for about a month now and it's color is very vivid so hopfully yours will look great in a few week time .
