I think that its a Crenicichla sp. "venezuela", based on the sticky, but I wanted to be sure. It's about 5.5-6 inches long right now. Has gotten some nice coloring 48 hours after putting it into the tank, but its still shy and won't hold still for pictures.

What do you think?

What's the max expected size?
Are they pretty aggressive? He'll be sharing the tank with a pair of pbass (about 4 and 6 inches each) as soon as I can catch and transfer them to the tank, and possibly a Florida gar (about 8-9inches) sometime in the next couple of weeks.

max size is 14-20 inches i believe. sp. venezuelans are one of the larger species of crenicichla.

nice pick up :D

Thanks! Got him for $20 at my lfs. Was that a good price? There are some others at another lfs for $30, and they're the same size, but I don't think they're venezuelan's. Maybe I'll have to pick one up if/when I get my gar.

Do different species of pike get along well together?

Mine is @ 12'' at the moment. I had it for almost a year. really chill fish. $20 is pretty good.

generally pikes dont get along with other pikes. some members have successfully gotten a few pikes to get along but id say most havent had as good of luck.

if you want to give it a try id make sure there are some other fish in the tanks so its not just the two pikes squaring off. also be ready to separate them if it doesnt go well.
