New Pike on Rapps list

Some of you may know I bought a pair of 6-7" C. alta from Jeff about a week ago. After recieving the fish, I was concerned that they were not really C. alta because the humeral blotch does not go through the lateral line. I sent an email to Jeff and we determined that they were most likely an undescribed species from Brazil. I guess he's calling them Crenicichla sp. maicuru. So maybe I didn't get C. alta, but I think the possibility of an undescribed species is even more exciting. These guys are beautiful, and they have awesome personalities. I couldn't be happier. Here are some pictures of my male:
Beat me to it! I was just about to say they are probably the 'alta' he was selling that didn't quite look 100% like alta. Still a nice pike from a not so commonly collected area.
Yeah, noticed the lateral line blotch not being lined up right, plus that mouth is so freaking wide, kinda looked a little weird. Makes sense now.
Not the first time he has sold a pike incorrectly. I've ordered Crenicichla marmorata from him before and ended up with Crenicichla sp. 'xingu II'. Really can't fault him though, as properly IDing Crenicichla can be a bugger to begin with. Especially when you are getting in new species.
Thats why most of us ask for pictures first before we buy, and why most of us DON'T buy because we seldom get the pictures. I understand that if he posts pictures for all the inquires that there are about fish, he would be swamped, but when it comes to Crenicichla, you really DO need pictures.
Either way, think you got the better end of the deal on this one.
