U.K
heys guys, so after being a rather silly boy and having 2 channa micropeltes in a 260litre tank, i decided i wanted to get rid and actually do some fish keeping not just be a keeper of fish =] so i sold them on, change my water and hunted aroun alot, was going to go down the route of a community aquarium but looking at the community fish really did not interest me, then i seen some tiny RBPs about the size of a 5piece, i came home and did a bit of research alough i dont know how many gallons 260litres is i was sure that i could have a few of these, i purchased seven as i am picking up a 120gallon tank at the weekend to store untill i need it, so i have 7 tiny rbps now =] there so cool, just wanted advise on decor etc really? what type of plants? fast or calm water? and whats the best diet. i will try to post some pics soon,
cheers

260L is about 68gallon, 120 gallon would be fine for 7 rbps, but aside from volume the footprint of the tank is also important. what are the dimensions of your 120 gallon?
as for decor its really a personal thing, depends on you like real plants or fake plants, rocks or driftwoods, gravel or sand, etc. you can search in the media section and see other peoples tank setup, if you find some that you like you can use those as reference.
at small, you can feed them bloodworm, brineshrimp, flake (if they eat those). feed 3-5 times a day when small and once they reach 3-4" you can reduce the feeding a bit, maybe 2-3 times a day and as they get bigger you can reduce more.
when they are 2-3" you can start giving them raw shrimp, fish fillet, smelt, silversides, etc. there's a sticky on piranha diet you can take a look.

You are a silly boy! Traded in channa for rbp? Crazy! I woulda kept channa n got rbp too.I wouldn't wait for 2-3" I'd feed everything now.darker background n sub n dim lights give you calmer fish that n putn few hours in front of your tank.gl

okay cheers mate, and how long do you think i can keep these seven in the 68 gallon? there as small as 5p pieces, i can never even find them atm =] lol

RBP's like low 80's (my tank is at a steady 83*). I have 10 of them myself and it is very rewarding to see them happy and watch them grow every day! And believe me, they will grow fassst from fry-juvie-subadult. It seemed like I bought mine at about 1", then I walked by my tank a few days later and they are like 6" now!

Just stay involved with the MFK community, as a new keeper of RBP's myself, this forum is more than helpful and everyone is super nice.

Good luck with your new family! Ask lots of questions!

okay cool, i really like my rbps, before i have just bought big fish straight away and its almost as if there not really your fish when you do that, they like a densly plated tank? i am going just to add a few plants at a time as i cannot fully plant the tank straight away as i have no money atm =( lol
cheers

I love my plants, the only problem with them is that the plants like the massive amounts of light and the piranha hate it. The only expensive part of a planted tank is the light itself and the extra amounts of TLC if you are a perfectionist. Look for hardy plants (none of those lead bound wispy things) swords, mosses, grasses and blubs are your best bets against scared piranha darting all over. You should be able to find swords with babys attached pretty easy to hopefully get more for your money. My wimpy $5 amazon sword got me 5 rooted babys free.

Make sure you watch out for snails too when your buying plants. I screwed up big time when I got my first plants and bought the cheap bunch ones 10 for $20. I have two of those left plus the population of snails.
