Magoo's bulk pet food store had announced they now had fish. So being curious I went and looked at these new fish they had. I don't know if these stores are everywhere or just here but they're nasty stores. No matter what. It's like a warehouse dollar store with pet supplies. So I wasn't expecting good quality from the beginning but still.
1 inch assorted african cichlids (mostly auratus) : $15.99 Packed so tight in the tank all you could see was them at the glass. (normally you can get ones that size for like $5-6)
tea cup sting rays : $49.99
large assorted cichlids : $29.99
They had a lot of livebearers as well but the ones that got me:
'rare' jack cichlids (is what they had them labeled as) they were just stressed jack dempseys that were completely black because they had them in the tank with the sting rays and large african cichlids. They wanted $30 for these 2 and 3 inch juveniles.
Then they had black convicts and they were labeled as fire mouths and wanted $25
16 inch or so common pleco in a 29 gallon. Poor thing couldn't move really.
Besides the outrageous prices for these fish, they don't even know what they have when it comes to some of these fish. I told the guy working there that the convicts were not fire mouths and he sat there and stared at me and then told me I didn't know what I was talking about and they were just juvenile and that he has had TONS of fire mouths before. That and the tanks were so dirty, for them all being new. All were flat glass bottom with no places for the fish to escape from each other. The water looked to be dyed blue as well with fungus looking gunk growing on the bottom of the tanks.
Poor fish ): I hope no one buys fish from these guys, but I know there are people that probably already have and will continue to do so.
