Just remember that it is hard to keep that deep of a tank oxygenated 48 inches down. Strong air pump would be a big help.
 
go 72x48x36. wont hinder the fish choices but gets rid of alot of unneeded water
 
I would seriously consider going 30" deep max. Tank maintanence is the biggest issue unless you like to swim!!!
 
the 72x48x36 is about 538.5 gallons. thats pretty good, so ill probably go that route. im having alot of problems finding plexi, and glass for this project. i thought the hardest part would be the filtration, now thats in second place. any suggestions on either???
 
I would go with 2-3Eheim Pro III.
