looking good JONNY !
i used panty hose , cut the legs to different sizes . tied one end , filled with growing media then tied the other end .
in my case i used the brown flourite stuff . then put in tank and used scissors to cut a slit and planted right into these pouches then buried the pouches under the sand .
worked great my jungle val is growing like crazy this way . has sent out runners with a whole wack of new ones growing great . also had a sword plant grow a whole bunch of babies . stayed in place very well too , other then the sand getting pushed off a bit when they would power swim sometimes , just requires a bit of reburying once in a while , you can see kinda in need of some reburying now lol .

Good idea that with tights(panty hose) but don't it stop the roots growing and spreading being in tight smallish sock? iv just used eco complete planting substrate all over! Trouble is cost doing this thow!! And how you find fine sand for getting compact with dirt/**** mate!
Those Valls look good thow mate! love the way they spread across water surface making overgrown look! Cannot have vallis in my tank because I dose liquied carbon for CO"2 " seachem exel" this kills vallis so that's a bummer!

the panty hose stretches a lot seems ok so far . i guess i could upgrade latter if they seem to need more root space but ok so far , the way the val grows with the runner thingys they grow more roots out of the pouches too . my girl friend has a discus tank she used the same grow media as you with panty hose as well . only hers are completely buried under sand . her plants growing great too i think hers is nicer then mine actually lol
the sand is play sand from home depote , i really like it its cheap rinses really easy . cant say as i have had any probs with compacting . the runners from the val have managed to root right in the sand .
it took a while for the plants to really start to grow but once they did they really took off .
anyway your tank looks great and wow !! what beautiful fish you have
