New polypterus, First one ever had. Advice?

So i finally got time to go my lfs got a Sen for about $10 hes really cool small though about 3 inches when i first put him in my cichlids thought he was a worm so they tried to eat him but when they got close they turned away and minded there own business then he started to float to the top and i was really worried cuz i though he was gonna die then i read it was natural behavior so ya hes eating good ate 3 New Life Spectrum cichlid pellets, so any advice would be appreciated and like stuff i can feed him to help him grow happy and healthy SO EXITED!:grinno:

hope you enjoy your new friend. The best advice I can give, is to just go through this forum and read read read. You will learn a lot from everyones experiences.
 
Good start mate :)
Few tips... Watch for ur cichlids, if they try to picking on the sen then it's better to separate, as this will cause stress. Cover the top of your tank. Keep a varied diet. If u want good growth give tilapia, smelt, massivore, and ur NLS... You should see some good results... Good luck and enjoy... Very soon the poly fever sets in ;)

To repeat gar88, good meaty foods are good. I have 9-10" senegal and a 9" endlii, they got there on a variety of different foods but mostly talapia. To make sure your sen gets food, feed your cichlids then turn the light off for the night and drop some food in. Polys are excellent night hunters because they use their nose instead of their eyes.

i feed mine frozen hikari blood worms, they are gut loaded with vitamins and everything so its good for it! mine grew crazy big within 3 months of feeding worms and shrimp heres a pic of my sen! P10-25-12_12.38[1] (1).jpg

i feed him talapia and he like death rolls and takes bite size pieces off then goes away eats it then comes back for more lol
