I am planning my first Pond and have some questions about set/filtration. I am planning a 13'x7'x3' pond with a waterfall. O will be going with the 45mil Firestone liner and after that I am not sure...
Filtration
I have seen so many different pond filters, and I am not sure what I need. I have seen waterfall filters, Things that look like canister filters and submersed filters.

What does everyone recommend when it comes to filtration?
Does the canister filter need to be burried? If not how do you hide it?

How does the waterfall filter and submerisble filter get the water? Do I need to buy a seperate Pumps?

Is it possible to set up a large wet/dry type filter?

And what is a skimmer, and are they needed?
Sorry for so many question, my wife says I can not start digging until I have everything planned!
ANy pics/diagrams are greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

Hi Seth,

Is the pond going to be a formal pond or more freeform in shape using those dimensions?
What sort of fish do you plan on stocking with?
Are you able to DIY filtartion or are you more into plug and play?
Thank your wife planning now will save headaches later

It was going to be long and skinny, pretty straightforward. I will be stocking with a few koi and tadpoles, and maybe a turtle. Nothing too heavy. I can probably make my own filter, but I am not sure of how to set up to make sure it is appealing..Would I bury it?

There are many ways of hiding filtration digging a filter pit,a small bamboo screen, putting it in the garden and hiding it with some shrubs, It depends on the site and what you are willing to do achieve the end goal.
Maybe if you post a picture of the site and a rough drawing of the pond. I am sure there are many members with more than enough ideas to help out.
Then you can figure out what will work for you and you will be building in no time.
