Got the tractor, liner, filter, pump, rock, bubble liner, dirt, and PVC ready to go, starting tommorrow @ 5:00 am.

it'll be 9' x 7' x 3' deep 1180 gallons. not really huge but its big enough 4 me and i hope the fish i want (plus i dont have to reroute the sprinklers)

my pump pumps 1100 gph, the filter sets in the bottom of the pond and sucks water a debris through a floss sponge thing over white and black charcoal and through another spong with bigger holes (for bacteria i guess) then the water is shot up through 1/2" PVC to a T about 4" under water, then it splits of into a four way wich has a nine inch piece of pvc connected to an elbbow that shoot 6" up and 2" outta the water with eether a bubbler sprinkler head that shoots down and out or a fountain sprinkler head. (i have 6 heads in all)

ill have some water hiacines <sp? and water lettuce (not sure about lillies yet) and i need some sort of grass plant (any ideas?)

ok so heres the fish i want.

- 4 sunfish

- 1 bullhead (cause i already have it)

- 2 koi

- 1 or 2 hi-fin sharks

- 1 albino channels catfish

- 1 plecostomus

- 2 bull frogs

- 1 alligator snapping turtle......jk a baby red-ear slider about 4" diameter

- and crawdads to act as feeders and cleaners.

any objections?

please feel free to give your suggestions.... also can the sides be steep or slanted or what?

Congrats on almost being a pond owner.

Steep sides will help keep preditors out. You can use cement blocks or plastic crates to set plants on out in the pond. Putting a ledge a foot deep around the pond is nice, but is kinda asking for trouble. Remember to cover the tops of the pots of your potted plants with hardware cloth so fish won't did up plants and get junk all over the pond.

Also make sure that these plants can't be used as fishing platforms.

well imma diggin, takin an hour break right now gunna have sumthin to eat and go back out. ive got it about 14" deep all around and started with a lip on the east side. all sides exept the south side are vertical, the south side is slanted a bit at about 70 degrees so my turtle and frogs can have easier access. the lip is about 1' deep and 14" wide so i can put some cattail and horse tails there. i may also put a big pot almost centered in the pond with lillies (still debating) and should there be a substrate or am i OK with just the liner.?

What's your ground like after digging?

If it's in the buget ( ;) ) 3-4" of sand will give some drainage and keep things from poking thru when you walk in it.

Oh, are you putting in a bottom drain ? It doesn't have to be a gravity drain, you can just hook a pump up when you need it, cap it and forget it's there till then, and you can't put it in later. Just a $30 thought.

ya weve got a drain, not exactly a bottom drain. hook a hose to the out fittings of the pump and it'll drain in an hour.

the ground is really rocky, ive pulled out 9 30 lb rocks so far 2day and about 5 yesterday plus hundreds of smaller ones.

weve got a plastic bubble rap sheet thig that were gunna put under the liner, and im starting to hit sand so digging should go a bit easier and that means i dont have to go buy any either... also i got a couple bags of pea gravels for the bottom to give it some substrate for bacteria and so i can figuere out how to vacume it...lol.

heres the filter/ pump to give you an idea ( i know i dont discribe things that well)
